And yes there is a GE plant here. Not across the river in another state but here in town. Half of all the Mitsubishi cars sold in the US are built here. Country Companies and State Farm are a couple of minor insurance firms based here. Downtown you can find the major switching station for East-West long distance phone service.

But you're right, this is corn country. Even with half the ag land being in hay and beans, plus lots of the corn going to the over half a million hogs raised in the county, McLean county is still the #1 exporter of corn in the nation.
