>>i realise what they teach you in school, how all history began in the 1770s thirteen colonies<<
Marcos, that's not quite how I experienced it. My US grade school education was well founded in English history. We covered the Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, Magna Carta, English common law, Norman Conquest, Protestant Reformation, Henry the Eighth and Ann Boleyn, Sir Francis Drake and the Spanish Armada, Puritans, Pilgrims, the fur trade, French and Indian War, the British conquest of Canada, etc. I've always loved history and geography of course, so perhaps I absorbed a bit more than some of the other Americans you've met.
