Thanks guys for your replies. Deeno, excellent point. I unfortunately learned the hard way how stocks can crush your savings. I bought into the Gold stock phenomenon in early 2000 and watched my investments evaporate (mostly juniors). I am now a blue chip investor but even that doesn't guarantee anything. I was just hoping to take what I have and get some dividends that are likely to be there in 5 to 10 years. I won't be retrieving any capital for at least another decade (I hope).
