All: To add to the conversation about tele-legal applications, I'll share these few thoughts and experiences. When I was at the Boston show, one of the SEXI engineers gave a dry erase board presentation to a group. He explained how they build a LVN (local video network) and interface it with the WAN. The discussion moved to specific applications. In the corrections market, video-teleconferencing applications are many; video-teleconferencing allows you to bring an inmate into any type of procedure while eliminating the possibility of escape or the like, and it also decreases the expenses associated with moving such prisoners (personnel, time, etc.); video-teleconferencing for distance learning applications allows for a broader range of educational opportunities while decreasing associated costs (the goal of rehabilitation is enhanced through providing inmates with opportunites to gain the necessary knowledge and skills which will allow them to be successful in society); video-teleconferencing allows for inmates families to meet face to face with their incarcerated love ones. A number of states are presently taking criminals into their systems from other states which are over burdened with inmates. If you are incarcerated in say N.Y. and sent to Texas to serve time, it is extremely expensive for family members to visit their love ones. Thus, you can bring the whole family into the video-teleconferencing room and meet face to face with your incarcerated love one at a much lower cost (the families will pay for these services, and my sense such services will be used extensively). In some, this technology allows for a multitude of highly cost effective means of both providing services and administering routine procedures associated with criminal justice. These uses are but a few of the many possible tele-legal applications being explored. Just a few thoughts.
