I'm going to move my IRA into a online trading account. Do you have an opinion of Lombard vs. CompuTel, the service mentioned on the SI home page? They both have the same parent company... I might also look at E-Schwab.

I took the day off to watch the market. What a bore, so far. I was hoping for some major bargains. Guess I have really turned into a bear.

You mentioned the fire: I am in Anchorage, and the main fire they are talking about has come within 5 or 10 miles of Anchorage, but it is on the other side of Knik Arm, a narrow arm of the ocean. Smoke and ash drifted over Anchorage Monday. For a brief time the fire insurance companies stopped writing new coverage. Anchorage is in Southcentral Alaska. There is also a major fire on the Fort Greely bombing range in Central Alaska near Fairbanks. The new fire south of here on the Kenai Peninsula is in a forest that has been killed by spruce beetles, so it is very incendiary.
