Bill will be no longer called America's first black President
He never was.
He did very little to foster a black agenda. In fact, his centrist DLC position was in many respects quite contrary to what one might consider black interests.
He and Hillary are consummate users. After getting the black vote, he turned his attention to the center in order to get re-elected.
After a brief attempt to cater to those interests, i.e., Lanie Guinier [sp?], which he unceremoniously dumped at the first hint of trouble, etc., he forgot about the black community. Remember Sistah Souljah? What were blacks going to do, after all, vote for Dole?
The Dick Morris strategy - let Bill be the lightning rod while Hillary is low key, allowing her not to be the issue - worked (in reverse) when he ran, but it may not work in 2008 for one simple reason: Bill has already been President and the country undoubtedly suffers from Clinton fatigue.
Although I like Romney a lot, I don't think he can handle Billary.
McCain is probably the only one who can defeat them, so I will reluctantly support him as I think it is imperative to prevent a 16 years of Billary. Even the NYT seems to think so, it had a prominent op-ed piece recently making the point. |
