Anyone know the procedure to move an installed/registered version/copy of Win XP from a lame/limping computer to a new one??
After I first installed XP and registereed it.. the computer started acting up.. So, like the dummy I am, I decided to try and go back to my previous WIN98.. Discovered that didn't work.. so, hoping to fix things, I decided to reinstall WINXP over the running one.
Well, it wouldnt install since there was already a version running. So, this brilliant thought comes to me.. Install it to the small, 2 meg, "D" sector I have on my hard drive. There is no Win.XP residing there.. just some of the old 98 which wouldnt run. Win XP found that to it's liking and installed and it has been working pretty well for about 3 weeks now.. except the 2 meg area on the HD gets full.. Now my dilema is that the 30 days or whatever given to register are about up. I think if I try to register the second install MS will know and not let it install.
Now, I have a new bigger/better/faster/ Sony sitting here in a box.. I believe it's got Win ME which I want to replace with this Win XP that I have. I'll be happy to delete it and when we start up the previous machine.. will reinstall WIN 98 that came with it.
But, how do I do it??? Is there a standard procedurre?? I spent a couple of hours on the WIN site and coudln't find anything.
