I agree. Many different and conflicting forces have hijacked the Palestinian cause. Arafat was a master of riding the surf on the waves of those hijackings.

The Palestinians have lost their identity. They need to find for themselves a common voice, preferably through an elected official such as Abbas. Then they need to articulate their vision and pursue that vision through negotiation with Israel. When they reach a roadblock they need to press the U.S. and Europe to help them get what they want. This is called diplomacy. Abbas has been trying hard, but alot of work remains to be done. Hamas for one needs to get out of the guerrilla warefare business and into the diplomatic business. They have a historic opportunity to make a transition now and sweep themselves into a legitimate, peaceful force for good of the Palestinians. Let's see if they seize it.
