The tests they use are unbiased toward any manufacturer and are representative of real applications.

Oh come now. I've been doing large system benchmarking for over 30 years and the first thing I ever learned is that no standardized test had much of anything to do with any real application environment unless you built that test yourself to reflect your own environment. Most of the standard benchmarks for transaction volume are built around a bank teller model, i.e., very small, very simple, discrete transactions. Great for getting your numbers up, but what does it have to do with e-commerce? Or a web server with no transactions?

Besides getting a great price per transaction rating might be great if you are setting up a site for a mom and pop operation that will never get any significant load, but is that where the action is? One of the most significant characteristics of the web is the intense scalability it can require of a site. Back when clients were defined end-points, there was a limit to how fast any one site could grow because of the speed with which one could reasonably add connections. With the web, that number is effectively infinite with no delay. This is not a realm for dickering over good value, but one for deciding what can cut the mustard and be relied upon 24x7.
