It staggers the imagination that so-called 'competent regulators' and elected officials could SLEEP through all of this as the unsteady tower grew... as the face value of all these totally unregulated and un-backed insurance contracts grew to actually EXCEED the Gross National Product for the entire world.... But maybe then answer is also simple human nature? Maybe they were PAID to look the other way?
