Well, jttmab sees this move by Russia as a positive step. I'm not sure why, but I'll be interested to have the reason explained to me.

I might as well say it here. Because the US [especially the conservatives] need to learn pretty damn quick that being the only superpower doesn't mean much. The US can throw it's weight around but there are undesirable repercussions.

If Condi was a real Soviet analyst she would know that the Soviets, now Russians are a paranoid culture. If you put nukes in Turkey, they're going to do something crazy like put nukes in Cuba.

I'd like to see the Russians [or Chinese] send a battle group to the Persian Gulf for military exercises with Iran. It would be non-provocative of course. Just like our non-provocative carrier groups are in the Persian Gulf.
