I'm not adamantly for or against any criteria for voting, other than that each voter should be a lawful American citizen and vote independently of any other person's influence.

We have minimum standards to become a naturalized American citizen, and I'm not sure what the objection to similar minimum standards for voting is. I've never had to contemplate being denied the right to vote, though I'm sure it is unpleasant.

Why should I not be required to understand the basics of citizenship before voting? The alternative might be Paris Hilton being elected to office, and I sure wouldn't want that unless she acquires some attributes that she doesn't put on in front of a mirror.

CNN had a serious called "Broken Government" that I thought was a clear attack on the freely elected administration that we have now. From my point of view, government was broken when Clinton took office. I had things shoved down my throat that I didn't agree with at all. That went away when Bush was elected.
