You can do a heck of a lot better than just relying of hype and hope.

That really isn't relevant to the discussion. It isn't about hype and hope, its about charting data, compared to just finding out what you can and getting a feel for the situation. The problem with the first is that it has little predictive power, and the data points often don't represent what is really important. The problem with the 2nd is that it is subjective, and of course that none of us are in, or heavily involved with Iraq.
