I too heard bob talk about oil imports. He made a special point of a lack of a coherent energy policy for 30 years plus. He also mentioned leadership, or lack of leadership on the issue. Chalking it up to those few politicians that do speak out very often end up getting beat in the general elections.

I was a small child when President Kennedy made it a National priority to send men to the moon and bring them back safely by the end of the decade. I think bob was talking about that type of leadership in the energy area. If President Bush or the next President made that type of commitment to say convert from oil to Hydrogen in 10 years or some other non oil energy source that is what I think bob was talking about. If he was I agree that is the way to proceed.

I have heard the U.S. uses around 25% of the total global energy, and I am fine with that. We produce our share of food and goods and then some. If we could somehow keep it up and not use much if any oil and be truly energy independent that would be an accomplishment. But it is going to require tremendous leadership.
