US Senate Begins Key Procedural Vote On Bernanke Confimation

3:22 PM ET 1/28/10 | Dow Jones

WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--The U.S. Senate began a vital procedural vote on Ben Bernanke's bid to be reconfirmed as chairman of the Federal Reserve Board shortly after 3:20 pm EST Thursday.

In order to overcome the procedural hurdle, 60 senators must vote in favor of Bernanke serving a second four-year term at the helm of the central bank.

If the initial vote is successful, the Senate will proceed immediately to a confirmation vote on Bernanke's renomination.
