StrongARM vs i960

from the article in Don's last post:

"In embedded microprocessors. Intel's own i960 has not been a public focus and in some respects was considered nearing
its end-of-life, in part due to the success of the ARM cores (widely-licensed) and Digital's StrongARM. Digital
Semiconductor VP, sales, Richard Riker, said that Intel and Digital were still hammering out where they would take
StrongARM. "I'll give you my opinion," he said, "and that's that Intel is very anxious to adopt StrongARM," Mr. Riker said
"Intel would be, should be and is very interested in taking StrongARM" into several of its markets. "
---

I believe this would mean that Intel would push I2O using StrongARM chips more than the i960?? If this is true, would Intel take over Digital's royalty payment obligation to WIND for the StrongARM products (DEC and WIND had an agreement, I believe)? If both of these statements are true, wouldn't that in effect mean HIGHER royalty payments to WIND, based on the fact that Digital was probably set to pay higher per chip fees than Intel was??

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I am not sure about my implications and am looking for some verification either way, right or wrong.

Thanks,
Darryl
