Trey, I find all of these award thingies highly suspicious. The idea that any pub can be unbiased when rating its advertisers is ludicrous. In the same issue, PC had 30 pages on NT 4.0 without ever mentioning all of its problems and the fact that MSFT has downplayed its intro until they can get it fixed. That is hardly an unbiased approach. I am looking at PC World page 199, Sept issue. Micron service and suppor is rated "Fair." Dell is rated "Best" in that category and Gateway "Good." But that doesn't really mean anything. What means something is that MUEI's marketing strategy is based upon winning awards and rapping Dell and Gateway as somehow being lesser companies. Just look at all their print ads for references to winning awards and their "first tier" reliability and service. I think what has happened, assuming these things are somewhat honest (a big assumption), is that NEC and others have studied Micron's strategy. MUEI learned early how to Ziff-Davis-ize their PCs. Just like some winemakers learned what Robert Parker liked and gave it to him. Now, others have caught on to this trick and it takes away the cornerstone of MUEI's sales strategy at a time the price war in PCs is heating up. BTW, have you seen all the ads for new "Direct" pc companies, including Compaq, Zenith, NEC and Cyrix? Methinks Dell has been too successful. MB
