LSI Logic Storage Systems Receives Prestigious Fibre Channel Industry Association SANmark Rigorous Certification Testing Assures Customers of Robust Multiple-Vendor Storage Area Networks MILPITAS, Calif., March 27 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of scalable storage solutions for the enterprise, today announced it has received the SANmark(TM) Qualified mark for its E4400 and E2400 scalable, enterprise-class Fibre Channel systems.
SANmark Qualification is a program developed by the Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA). The program requires a product to pass a series of rigorous tests designed to ensure adherence to Fibre Channel standards and operation, thus promoting heterogeneous Fibre Channel networks and SANs.
``This is further evidence of LSI Logic Storage Systems' commitment to open systems,'' said Gerard Meluso, director of alliances for the Milpitas-based firm. ``By passing the suite of FCIA interoperability tests, we join a select list of firms whose products expand the options from which end-users can select while coincidentally offering lower cost-of-ownership, and greater reliability and flexibility in managing their exploding information storage needs.''
``The SANmark qualification program offers a number of benefits to the industry,'' said Skip Jones, FCIA board chairman. ``We find the SANmark helps members speed up time-to-market, smooth their implementation and configuration projects, and as a consequence lower their overall development costs.''
He said the verification process insures that multiple-vendor solutions conform to common network operation and afford end-users robust, heterogeneous Fibre Channel networks.
``With its SANmark qualification program, the FCIA is responding to interoperability issues that may be impeding wider acceptance of SANs,'' said Dan Tanner, senior analyst of storage and storage management at the Aberdeen Group.
LSI Logic has been a member of the FCIA since its inception. FCIA has thus far awarded SANmark designation to fewer than two dozen of its 190-plus member companies. Recently, FCIA and the Storage Network Industry Association announced plans to cooperate in a series of interoperability activities, further increasing the value of the SANmark designation.
In addition to SANmark designation, LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc., manages its own Certified Compatible logo program, testing other vendors' products to assure interoperability. ``Our Certified Compatible requirements meet or exceed those of the highly demanding SANmark program,'' said Dr. M.K, Jibbe, manager of interoperability at LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc.
