I use IB as well. The Java interface takes a little to get used to. Prices are low but in order to get quotes on the screen one must subscribe to US Market data (at the very least) which costs 10$/month unless you have >30$month in commissions. This is quite hard for me to accomplish at 1$/trade (for my lot sizes).

Overall I am happy with them, I moved one account from Brown&Co (which I like as well) to IB because of the impending E-Trade merger. The ability to trade on foreign Exchanges is nice too, although i have not tried it yet.
