Earth to Brian...

I went back and factored out the only meaningful tidbit you presented insofar as the survival of AOL was concerned. The problem of what the revenue model will look like and whether or non mom-and-pop service providers will survive have no bearing on that question.

"AOL has as good a chance as any content service to be the link of
choice from all the behemoth ISP providers. And the traffic will flow, and the advertising $ will follow."

Point One
Internet service providers do not have and will not have any interest in maintaining websites or links to other websites. They will provide the physical connection to the internet and that's it. Moreover, you will need a browser that adheres to world wide standards in order to communicate with these world wide services: AOL has one browser that it maintains to connect to its proprietary central service. Bad idea.

Point Two
AOL could survive as a content provider or information service but it would be one of thousands and there are more and better ones popping up everyday. But they can't use their content or their tools to do this since none of what they currently do is compatible with the web. Speaking of mom-and-pop, I would venture to say that 99.9 percent of the content on the web will be generated locally. In any event, AOL surely is not worth serveral billion when far more experienced and capable web content studios abound in the million dollar range.

My advice: SELL NOW AND SHORT THE PANTS OFF THIS STINKER!
