Great review of Corel. I have to admit that you are probably
right in estimating that the generic player, the Brand X in the
Office arena is Corel.

The only way to sell the product is to either be cheaper that
Microsoft, or by providing a substantially better product. In
the latter case the product should be priced higher than Microsoft's,
since (and this is a first hand observation) higher priced software
is generally perceived as better software. Hopefully the Corel
brand name would not form an obstruction there...

Finally, perhaps it's just me, but this company is starting to
get dangerously close to Borland a couple of years back -
big takeovers, bad management, direct competition with MS,
heavy price cutting... The barbarians finally just barely
survived in a niche market, not creating value for
shareholders.
