I don't think it CAN be removed form the enviornment. I think it has to work it's way through the system, now. It's already in the groundwater. You CAN remove it's use from gas. If gas (which I doubt) went to 3 dollars a gallon, guess what would happen? The people that drive suv's would have to sell them or pay 3 dollars a gallon. People would drive escorts instead of 15mpg cars. They wouldn't be able to pretend they were in some sort of survival endeavor when they went to the supermarket to get toilet paper. That would be a real shame, and I'm sure a lot of californians would have some sort of mental crisis, but........hey..sometimes you just have to tough these things out.
