Hi Jeff, Could you ask COMS which PC OEMS are installing x2 modems in their boxes? I called PC Mall today (because it happened to be on top of the stack of PC catalogs I get in the mail) and told them I was interested in purchasing both a desktop and a notebook and my only criteria was that it had to have an x2 modem installed. The sales rep. called me back an hour later and said he had researched the following OEM's they sell and COULD NOT FIND A SINGLE ONE THAT USED AN X2 MODEM: COMPAQ-800-okcompaq IBM-800-772-2227 HP-800-633-3600 Toshiba-800-999-4273 NEC-800-388-8888 Sony-800-326-9551 Acer-800-see-acer AST-800876-4278 Fujitsu-800-626-4686 Hitachi-800-536-6721 He was kind enough to give me the numbers to tech support at the OEM's he checked so that I could call and verify for myself, but I don't have time so I'll take his word. I posted the numbers so if anyone else wanted to call and see if any of these OEM's was using x2 modems in their standard configured systems they could do so and post the results. The reason why the OEM question is important to me is that if all the new PC's, notebooks, workstations etc. come with a k56flex modem, then the people owning these machines are going to have to find an ISP that supports k56flex. In order to support k56flex, the ISP MUST buy RAC's from ASND or CSCO. Some less savy ISP's will buy CSCO because golly gee they just love CSCO. Most however want the most advanced equip., highest port density, and lowest cost per port and will buy ASND. Some smart investor out there might even be able to guesstimate demand for ASND Racs based on the # of PC's, notebooks these OEM's are projected to sell worldwide, multiplied by some fudge factors such as the % of PC's sold that are actually connected to an ISP, avg. #of subscribers per k56flex port etc. IMHO now that the k56flex ball is rolling and every modem manufacturer in the world except COMS is producing massive quantities and aggressively cutting prices on k56flex modems (Motorola 56k ModemSurfer internal-$88) the demand for k56flex ISP support and ASND RAC's will be tremendous.
