In reading this reply of yours I got to thinking about a little glitch I have in my HP n5170 laptop. I use MSIE as my browser, and I like "Smooth Scrolling". So I open the browser, go to Tools|Internet Options|Advanced, scroll down a ways, and click the radio button for smooth scrolling. It works fine for the rest of the session, and then I shut down.
But when I boot up the next time, and launch IE, it has reverted to 'jumpy' scrolling and I have to go and re-select 'smooth'. IE forgets my preference every time I shut down (but not when I hibernate).
The laptop originally came with ME, and that's when I first noticed this. I updated IE, and it continued; it has done this consistently with every arrangement of OSs and IE builds I have tried, and continues now, with W2000 SP2. I have never seen this happen on my desktop however, which much of the time runs identical builds of OS and browser.
I got no reply from HP,I have prowled the message boards and tip sites, and I haven't got a clue. It sounds like some proprietary firmware thing that can't be fixed.
What I could do, with a little help, is to write a batch file that runs on startup. It would run once and close, and it would change one registry value from "0" to "1", so when I launch the browser it would scroll smooth.
Got any tips or know of a resource?
