I've spent most of today shopping for an ISP at which to colocate some machines and get about 512k of bandwidth.

Just got off the phone with a guy at Infobahn who offers, in New Jersey, for $99 per month, 5GB (bytes, not bits, total per month) and while we got to talking about how that won't work for me, he asked if I've considered running T1 to my house.

When I got done laughing, I said I'd love T1 but there's no way I can get it. He said not to be so sure and did a lookup, came back, and said that I can get a T1 pipe straight to the backbone for $1045 per month for a 36-month contract. He said it's provided by Qwest and that since he used my phone number to check, it's pretty certain to be accurate.

Also said the POP is in Freeman (a town of about 500 souls, if you count the cattle).

I'm very surprised but am still of the mindset "I'll believe it when I see it".

If true, this could solve so many problems for me, including my own access (this 30k up bit with Direcway is a bear, and it was out briefly at least a dozen times today), how to get to the backbone if I start a WISP, and how to deal with some machines I'm needing to get attached to some serious bandwidth (which I've assumed I could only do via colocation).

And it's cheaper than most of the colocation packages I've seen. Except for one: web-one-inc.com

So, whaddya think? Would anyone else believe it's possible to get a T1 connection in Boogerville, MO? They said it runs on standard 4-wire phone line, but I've only got the 4 wires and they're all in use for the telephones right now.

It's my understanding that if I'm not thrilled with DirecWay, I can return it all for a refund within 30 days. So I'm looking intensely into this option. Any opinions?
