I don't think we can pick tops, only trading ranges. Look at INTC, MSFT, IBM and others. There are many "tops" on the way to where they are now. There are overbought/oversold indicators which combined with other indicators and market fundamentals give us clues about getting in or out of positions. But, for long term, only fundamentals work in my opinion for equities. It's somewhat easier in the bond market because they are mostly driven by the eco data. But stocks seem to be affected by a much larger domain of events.

A PS to that BTO/CTO story is that it apparently only takes Dell 7 hours to output a completed order once the customer's credit card has been debited. That's pretty impressive! Good management falls under basic good fundamentals doesn't it? Like INtc, for example.
