Lincoln Chafee - worm Betsy's Page The take on Chafee has been for a while that he was too dumb not to know that he was really a Democrat. Now he's going to rectify that situation and is hinting that he'll join the Democrat Party. To clarify what a man of dep principles he is, he reveals why he's remained in the Republican Party - it was all about the Benjamins. <<< Chafee said he stuck with the party in large part because it allowed him to bring federal dollars home to Rhode Island. He said he did not regret not switching parties before the election because he felt it kept him in the best position to help Rhode Island to remain with what was then the majority party. >>> The funny thing is that, if he'd switched a few years ago when Jim Jeffords switched, he probably would have been reelected with ease on Tuesday. Having the 'R' next to his name doomed him in Rhode Island. Perhaps that is the Republicans' last laugh on Lincoln Chafee.
