Thanks for your comments. I agree about Intel's marketing - however, they were probably presented by manufacturing with a fait accompli: here is what we can do without cutting production/revenues, so you figure out how to sell it.

BTW, I certainly did not intend to criticize or second-guess Intel on this matter. It is virtually impossible to make a major product transition without hiccups in quarterly results. Only the street expects each quarter to be part of a smooth profit/revenue curve.

In the olden days of IBM, having orders greatly exceeding plans would be labelled a "win", not a problem. It only represents a problem here because Intel is so supply-constrained that it must make trade-offs to address new market opportunities.

In the realm of "problems", being overwhelmed by demand for your new products is perhaps not the worst that exists.
