U.S. Open Kids’ Fined For Opening Lemonade Stand To Fight Cancer Posted on 19 June 2011 by admin
Boston (SmartAboutHealth) – A group of kids in Maryland near the U.S. Open gold tournament decided to open a lemonade stand, and aimed to put the money towards fighting pediatric cancer. Officials were not flattered though, and shut down the stand, as well as fined the parents of the kids $500.
When the group of kids from Maryland woke up one day and decided to try and open a lemonade stand, their parents were surely proud.
When the kids decided to put 50% of what they made towards a charity that fights pediatric cancer, they must have been even prouder.
All of that came crashing down though after an inspector from Montgomery County, MD told the children they needed a vendors’ license to run the lemonade stand.
The inspector was ruthless, to the point where he shut down the stand, and slapped the parents of the kids with a fine in the amount of $500.
This has resulted in a PR nightmare for the county in Maryland, as well as the U.S. Open, which is right nearby.
The parents are outraged, and rightfully so. As Americans, we see kids opening lemonade stands each and every day, and it has to be assumed that none of them registered for a license to do so.
The director of permitting for the county has stated it is illegal to run a lemonade stand without a license.
The county has yet to apologize, leaving Americans across the U.S. completely angered.
With the U.S. Open in town, you would think kids would be allowed to sell lemonade to raise money for cancer, but apparently that is not allowed.
