Re -- Remember the days that only US made automobiles. Then the Japanese started and made some average(may even bad) cars. Then they become better at doing it at lower price.

Similar thing happened to Intel in the early 80's with DRAM. Intel (from Andy Grove's book) is well aware of foreign competition and survived. As for competition from AMD/CYRIX/IDTI these always existed, and there is nothing new.

Re -- What high margin means is good for the company, but bad for the consumer.

If the high margin is used to fund further development, innovation and growth, no one should begrudge the high margin. Look at how far the PC Industry has come in a few years and how much the consumer has benefited. And as for CEO's salaries, Andy's and Craig's salaries are much less compared to other CEO's even though its one of the most profitable companies in the world.
