Mark,

DT is trailing VDSL Orckit modems in Westphalia. This is for sure.

In addition to this I received a mail from a group who is helping with those same trials. I cannot tell if he is insinuating if Seimens/Amati is involved in this at all. My question to him was direct, "Is Amati involved". His dance around answer:

**********************************************************
Dear Mr. Goethals,

we are working for Deutsche Telekom and Siemens on this subject.
Currently we are organizing an xDSL market trial for DT in Cologne,
Dusseldorf and Bonn. Our task is to identify possible DSL-services,
applications and business and residential customers.

We have been working for Siemens, organizing xDSL-Demonstrations.

Regarding the market situation, Amati and Siemens are developing ADSL
Systems together, competing with vendors like Orckit, Alcatel etc. in this
field. Siemens as one of the major vendors in Telecommunications Systems is
offering xDSL integration into public network systems. This is one thing
smaller companies can not do.

BTW - Cologne, Dusseldorf and Bonn = The Westphalia region of Germany

Tenzer said the Nuremberg ADSL pilot project is testing video-on-demand and home shopping applications. A new test in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany's most populous state, will begin in the next few weeks in a project with the state government and leading The new test will be aimed at studying ADSL applications for mid-sized industry, such as fast Internet access and applications for publishing, medicine and education as well as access to video servers

The test in Nuremberg is using OV4.
