Ali - Re: "I was always confused on this matter. "

I am always glad to help you in your constant struggle with confusion.

Check out AMD's April, 1995 10Q filing with the SEC. You will find the following (as well as other details of Intel/AMD litigation):

"AMD agreed to pay Intel $58 million in settlement of claims
for past damages related to AMD's distribution of Am486 microprocessors containing Intel's 486 ICE microcode. "

In a related matter, check page 23 of AMD's 1994 Annual report. Two items you should pay attention to:

1. AMD settled a class action suit for $33,000,000 brought on by shareholders aginst AMD and Jerry Sanders for claiming the AMD 486 was "Clean Room Clean" and contained no Intel microcode.

As noted above, Intel sued them in court because they used Intel microcode and the shareholders sued because Sanders and AMD LIED ABOUT IT.

2. The SEC also launched an informal investigation into AMD's disclosures on the use of Intel microcode.

You should also call AMD directly - they will be able to give ALL THE DETAILS. I'm sure they are looking forward to help you with your confusion.
