Company Press Release

Differential Partners with Entrust,
Security Dynamics, and Verisign to
Develop the First E-commerce Legal
Infrastructure

Partnership a Crucial Step in Making Electronic
Transactions Safer than Paper

CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 19, 1999-- Differential Inc. moves one step
closer to delivering the first online legal infrastructure for businesses to conduct binding and auditable
electronic transactions over the Net by cultivating technology alliances with Entrust® Technologies
Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTU - news), Security Dynamics Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:SDTI - news), and
VeriSign, Inc. (Nasdaq:VRSN - news).

Differential considers these agreements a cornerstone of the company's plan to extend its
industry-leading secure Extranet commerce product line that includes ''non-repudiation'' solutions
that remove legal ambiguity arising from conducting high-volume and/or high-value transactions
electronically.

Differential will integrate core authentication, certification and encryption technologies from its
partners in the company's current FileDrive™ and Extranet Creator™ products. In addition, the
partnerships will help provide a base for Differential's first Digital Receipt solutions, which will be
available in Spring 1999. At a press conference held yesterday at RSA 99, David Jevans, president
and CEO of Differential, Inc. announced an initiative for the accelerated development of a Digital
Receipt Infrastructure (DRI) for electronic commerce.

Differential's DRI initiative will allow corporations to track a broad class of enterprise transactions in
a non-forgeable, auditable and notarized format. DRI will provide irrefutable proof that an electronic
transaction has taken place by verifying the identity of the sender, placing a tamper-resistant seal on
the message and documenting the content and form of the transaction. This non-repudiation
capability is the next step in making e-commerce safer than paper. (See related press release dated
January 19, 1999.)

''Companies are eager to become part of the electronic commerce boom. However, when
businesses begin conducting complex online transactions, they sometimes forget that, unlike paper
transactions, the Web does not inherently offer legal security or guarantee commitment. Digital
receipts change all that,'' said David Jevans, CEO and president of Differential. ''By making it
difficult for companies to renege on commitments, modify contract terms en route or claim
non-delivery, the Digital Receipts solution will accelerate the growth of business-to-business
e-commerce.''

''Entrust is pleased to be part of Differential's solutions by providing the leading Enterprise Public
Key Infrastructure, run-time engines and web server certificates,'' said Jim Mirowski, director of
strategic alliances, Entrust® Technologies Inc. ''Our joint customers will be able to leverage our
respective infrastructures to enable business to business e-commerce.''

''Security Dynamics' relationship with Differential reinforces our commitment in building a strong and
secure infrastructure for Internet commerce, where it's essential that you know who you're dealing
with,'' said Scott Schnell, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Security Dynamics. ''The
integration of our SecurID™ authentication capabilities with Differential's FileDrive and Extranet
Creator products provides the strong, two-factor authentication that is critical in securing global
e-commerce.''

''VeriSign is pleased to be a part of Differential's efforts to facilitate secure e-commerce for
enterprises,'' said Anil Pereira, director of marketing for VeriSign. ''Differential's implementation of
VeriSign Secure Server IDs™ provides the security for building the legal infrastructure necessary for
the growth of e-commerce among large businesses.''
