Seahawks sign veteran LB George Koonce June 19, 2000
KIRKLAND, WASHINGTON (TICKER) -- A salary cap casualty in Green Bay, linebacker George Koonce today signed with the Seattle Seahawks.
Terms were not disclosed for Koonce, who will be reunited with former coach Mike Holmgren in Seattle.
Koonce, a starter at linebacker for most of his eight seasons in Green Bay, was released on June 5. He was scheduled to count for $1.2 million against the Packers' cap this season.
Entering his ninth year, Koonce started since the early weeks of his rookie season in 1992, amassing 623 tackles, 7 1/2 sacks, and four interceptions in his career. Last season, he started 15 games and recorded 50 tackles.
The 6-1, 243-pounder tore his right ACL in Green Bay's 35-14 victory over San Francisco in the NFC divisional playoffs after the 1996 season and missed most of the 1997 campaign.
The Seahawks also signed rookie guard Donta Kendrick and released guard Chris Gilbert. |
