A non-biotech company that I can recall with a product with a huge market potential was Comparator Systems. If you can consider a biotech with a huge potential it would be Human Genome Sciences. In the 3-4 years since they were public the stock has been generally up until the last 18 months. HGSI now however is getting competition from major pharmaceutical cos as well as others in mapping out the human genome project. In analyzing the situation 90% of biotechs fail. Geron MAY have a product 10 years from now which is a very long time to wait. This breakthrough was already known and this is a news driven event. In addition, I can recall CEPH and ABTI recently had problems getting FDA approval. GERN @ $6.5 was definitely undervalued, the question is at what price are you willing to pay for a company that has a very slight chance of a potential blockbuster but an unknown 10 year future. I don't know and really don't care, but if you pay attention to the news and the trading activity you can do extremely well because the volatility in this stock is tremendous. Lets say I wouldn't buy and hold the stock like grandma used to say.
