Agree with you that GTIS didn't really lose on the add-on deal to ATVI. How much did ATVI pay to Id Software for the rights, too much I think for what they'll get in return. When they do publish the add-on GTIS will still be making money, since you'll need the registered or full version of Quake to run it. If GTIS can get the pulishing rights for Hexen 2 from Raven Software the whole issue will be academic as this game will blow Quake out of the water. It uses the Quake engine, and all of the features of Quake plus much more! Due out in summer 97 !
