ot gasoline is not too safe either... or heating oil years years ago before they added static additives to it.
We had a guy loading gasoline at the rack and previously loaded heat for delivery.. switch loading is very dangerous. After many, many explosions the companies came up with a flush procedure of 15 gallons per compartment of Kerosine to neutralize the compartment.. Still static is a big problem.. I saw one driver and truck go up with truck grounded, compartment almost fully loaded and it exploded.
This of course was way back when we top loaded with drop tubes. Deliveries today are not mixed on one truck with a compartment of gasoline and a compartment of diesel.. Maybe on occasion they may run a mixed load but if they do it will be with a compartment empty between a gasoline and a diesel compartment.

We lost a tanker (ship) at Paulsboro, NJ refinery in 70's and recently we lost a barge at Port Mobil Staten Island, nyc assumed to be static from pump on barge. IN each case they were handling gasoline.

. In the 60's when a tanker receipt came in with jp4 on it we would not climb a storage tank for 24 hours after receipt for fear of static.

Service stations throughout the years, many stations blew up as a result of managers cleaning the floor with a little gas and the metal on a squeegee hit something , causing a spark and blow up the station.. or someone drop a part and cause a spark. boom.... I had a driver come into me one day and tell me the reason he got burnt was because of the uniform... He showed me his legs all burnt below the knees... This is large tank truck gasoline driver.... who should have know better..... He was cleaning his garage floor. split level ranch... with some gasoline.
He was just about finish when the hot water heater , located in the garage called for heat.. the Burner went on and boom. the vapors ignited immediately.. He got out , got a hose and put out the fire on himself and the house.

I have a lot of respect for gasoline... It is a time bomb imo... high humidity, no wind and you are surrounded by fumes at the average gasoline pump... you see many accidents at pumps in service stations. see ya.. my rant for the weekend.
