I disagree. Liens reflect problems and are not everyday business for most of us as nineiron suggests and there is an important reason for it, future business.

Liens are filed to protect oneself as a matter of last resort prior to the next step which is costly and expensive litigation.

Liens are an important tool but they do cause a breakdown in relationships with the customer. The contractor and owner do not want liens filed, period. A company who files a lien against a large contractor will not be on the top of their list the next time a project is bid/negotiated. Therefore we use them sparingly in the construction sector.

Intent to lien notices are sent out prior to the actual filing giving the contractor or other customer an opportunity to address the problem prior to the filing.

I called a large general contractor this morning to get additional information as we are a manufacturer. His position is the same. If a heating/cooling company for example filed a lien against one of his jobs, he would not use them again for quite some time, if ever.

Janice you Con Job!! That's the Nevada Energy Corps record of mechanics liens. That's a good thing, not a bad. When large companies do large jobs for other contractors it's only smart to place a mechanics lien against them to protect the company from non-payment and lawsuits. IT'S EVERYDAY BUSINESS FOR MOST OF US!! What you just posted shows that Mike Sylver is much smarter than you are.
