Sure I can explain it! A bunch of AMD shareholders got together after hours and one of them said, "hmm, I've got an idea. Let's totally screw up the short sellers who think (logically so) that amd should head to hades and put out a rumour that k6 chips are selling like hotcakes, because ibm, cpq, dell and everyone else is resourcing their chip requirements to amd. And remember, don't let anyone know that amd's cost to manufacture these wonder chips exceeds their selling price. That way, everyone will think that amd is a bargain, pushing up the stock price to the heavens and we can watch the shorters squirm."

At which point the remaining AMD shareholders began to chuckle among themselves and marvel at their collective brilliance.
