Why not spring for XP at about the same cost as 2000? It has a compatibility mode that allows you to run specific programs in your choice of operating system modes from Win95 through 2000, plus NT.

All the programs I've used so far work fine in the native XP mode. So I can't really vouch for the feature. I do know that it is easy to implement by right clicking on the program shortcut.
