Less support required by OpenStep development, not more! Write only once and compile and it appears as native under any of these OS's. Get your facts clear before jumping ...

Sorry I was unclear. I agree that a "simple" recompile will produce a binary that works on each OS but that is not the sum-total of "support."

As a developer "support" to me means having to buy and run each of the 9 OS/hardware variants. Install and learn the idiosynchrasies on each platform. Compile the code. Test and verify the correctness of the code. Ship 9 different SKU's. Take Tech and Customer "support" questions. Keep up with each combination as the OS changes and hardware changes.

Phew!!! This the definition of the fatal flaw/hubris of the PC and Mac business. Nothing is simple any more.

Remember prices for hardware are dropping like a rock, forcing prices for software to fall too, so that the cost percentage relationship is maintained.

No wonder every company is having to start charging for "support." I'm frankly amazed that anyone is making any real money in this business.

By choosing Wintel, it is my belief that less costly "support" is possible and that money can be made. This statement will doubtless start a shitstorm of commentary but it is the basis of a lot of the defections in my opinion.
