HI Allen: I been to sony.com told them they need to speed it up too
they not answere my letter..
Guess In was lucky we not in big city, so AOL not put in local
number..none of them do..so for years we do our thing on BBS
and I even become sysop, we used Fido net and sent our pakets
right over phone lines..it was not live chat mind you but we
had hundreds of channels like SI does, and you could post on
them and they got updated 2 to 3 times a day.
All the so called new push/pull on the internet is not new to any
BBSer..we used it..and most mail was done off line..most every
thing was done off line..then you loged on and uploaded..it was
conservitive..but really covered a lot..then the local collage
put in a T3..and asked if anybody wanted on the internert..
"THEY were swamped"...it impressed some others to..today 3 yrs
later..we have 5 ISP you can pick from "plus the collage"..standard rate is 14.95, there are no major players serving my area..nor do
the serve 80% of the country..70% to 80% of the internet users
are simply notb being counted..because they are not signed up
with some big name outfit..and the bean counters don't know
how to add up all the little ISPs.."little"...like 100 modems
dial ins..we are every were too..all independent..and cooking,
and have our own little inner circles..we even get together..
from time to time for real live fellowship..and there is always
some one willing to help you with the learning curve..over 50%
of our type users have home pages..) thats also standard and no
extra charge..( up to 1 meg on server )
you just have to learn a little html code..
If we would have had local dial-in maybe a lot would be on AOL..
here..but no-one is..she could come now..but to late..she never
compeat with our local service now..no way.
We did it the hard way..but damm it paid off..we fly compared
to the AOLers I'v seen, yep I have visited a few up in ALVIN,
and one or two actully paid for LD to give it a try...YUK..
republic.net
Try my serch service
go there click "usenet" instead of the defult web
enter AOL in the form then click submit.
Jim

all you can eat..includes USENET..and IRC..$14.95 ,
you can even go down and visit the sysop..and talk to
a real person in person..with local ISP.
A PC club in Houston called HAL..is even cheaper..
they springing up..10 years frrom now internet service
providers..give you the sevice..if you just use their
LD service..it's going to be a perk..or so cheap..that the
big boys won't want to put in and maitain the modems,
but will pay you a royality for users that you get to sign up
for long distance..AOL nor its daughter ANS have any real
net work...they lease the lines..and are defacto ISPs,
or PROXY re-sellerts of bandwidth <G>
And did I mention thev AOL winsock.dll is 16 bit !
You cant run like netscape 3.01 32 bit on aol,
you have to use the 16bit stuff.
