They are right. It is analogous in its function, but it uses a different system, so it requires a different approach adjusting that system.

And as it is a Republcian Rube Goldberg system using the private sector tightly controlled by government, it is tricky.

If we had gotten a simple extension of medicare (like the dems wanted) we could have done this whole thing in 10 minutes.


It's a system derived out of compromise--one that had to accommodate the aims of many competing interests. IMHO it is inaccurate to call it Republican system--the majority of whom opposed it and didn't vote for it.

No votes there for universal medicare.
