From mj:

I am writing about taxes in Virginia and in particularly Northern Virginia----this came in today from a Supervisor in Loudoun County, one of the fastest growing Counties in Virginia.

A little background, a move was made to create another level of taxation on several jurisdictions in Northern Virginia---Fairfax County, Loudoun County and several other counties. A case went to the Virginia Supreme Court denying the power of taxation to the NVTA to enact taxes on the citizens of these counties.

The Virginia Supreme Court denied this new level of regional taxation.

However, what is now happening is described in the supervisors note------think it speaks for itself----basically the liberals are saying if we can't have our regional authorities to have taxation power we will tax you at the state level. See below a note from local Supervisor----

**********************************************************

DUE TO THE SUPREME COURT DECISION TAX DOLLARS TO BE RETURNED

From lLoudoun County Supervisor:

"I wrote you and told you the Virginia State Supreme Court decision regarding the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority ("NVTA") case.

The taxpayers won. Thank you for standing by me and against these seven "regional taxes" which I describe in more detail below here:

1. Grantor's Fee of 40 cents per $100 to be paid by the seller of a home. ( A BIG TAX)
2. 2% surcharge on car rental fees
3. 2% surcharge on overnight hotel room charges
4. $10 increase in annual vehicle safety inspection fee
5. 5% surcharge on labor charges for auto repairs
6. $10 increase in annual vehicle registration fee
7. 1% surcharge on value of vehicle at initial (first time only) vehicle registration

"The authority said it is developing a refund plan for the taxes and fees that have been paid to date. "None of the taxes collected since Jan. 1 have been spent and the authority anticipates providing full refunds as soon as possible," NVTA said in a prepared statement."

Liberals in Richmond and in the northern Virginia establishment are now ploting to "correct" what the Supreme Court threw out, so be on alert to tell your state legislators not to vote to impose these seven taxes "legally". One proposal is to pass all the above 7 taxes directly. I will let you know if I get news."

Additional Comment---mj:

Regional taxation authorities have been in the making since the Carter days and maybe before. This is taxation without representation as they are not elected.

Seems like the Virginia Supreme Court has put the question of giving the power to tax to new regional taxing authorities to rest at least temporarily.

As you may understand----------taxation is going to be a major issue in the General Election in Northern Virginia.
