Richard,

I managed to get through to some of the other boards. It appears that the crowd is mostly anti-Rambus, but there are a couple of supporters:

Not really, it IMHO is going to be the future. And after that
something even more out there. Consider the fact that everyone(even
intel as talked about a product) will be shifting to putting the
memory controller on chip.

Why? "Its the latency stupid", even with a potential latency hit for
the DRAM access, the gain from bringing all the logic on chip more
than makes up for this. You literally can cut the latency in half by
bringing it on chip. The memory controller can be more complex as
well.

Whereas more memory controllers are only able to keep track of a few
open pages, on chip memory controllers will keep track of hundreds.

The next evolution of the memory interface is to get rid of the bus
totally and go towards a point to point memory interface with >3Gb/s/p
signalling.

Rambus is not a dumb idea( even the Synclink people would have to
agree since Synclink was basically the same thing). Pushing the SDRAM
interface to infinity IS A DUMP IDEA.
