Interesting review article on Vitamin D deficiency in current NEJM.

It suggests daily doses of 1,000 IU of D3 or 3,000 IU of D2 per day, or a (script needed) 50,000 IU capsule of D2 once a week for 8 weeks followed by one capsule every 2-4 weeks thereafter.

Ironically, in the same issue there is a report of a vitamin D overdose caused by a misformulation in an OTC product - patient was taking 190,000 IU's a day instead of the intended 400 IU's.
