It appears GE is buying Honeywell's semi-lame microturbine biz as part of merger end:
<<FAIRFIELD, Conn. and MORRIS TOWNSHIP, N.J., October 2, 2001 - GE (NYSE: GE) and Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that they have terminated their merger agreement. ---SNIP--- In addition, GE agreed in principle to acquire two businesses from Honeywell with estimated, aggregate 2001 sales of $35 million (Tensor, an oil and gas sensor business, and Honeywell Advanced Composites) and certain technology related to micro turbines and fuel cells. Terms were not disclosed>>

GE doesn't like to be in a biz unless it can be #1 or 2 and from what I hear, Honeywell's platform is unlikely to to get them there. So perhaps GE might become a prospective purchaser of CPST? CAT would still be a serious competitor, so a GE+CPST combination would stand a chance getting thru HSR scrutiny.
Just idle speculation on my part...no info whatsoever to support it.
