The Self-Loathing Left
By Granddaddy Long Legs

If you thought members of the far left reached rock bottom in the self-depricating days after the 2004 election, then think again. I thought that regaining control of Congress next year would assuage much of their manufactured indignation and diminish their hyperbolic prophecies of impending doom, but it appears that I was wrong. They've grown even more out of touch with reality. I think this comes from an assumption that the results of the 2006 elections proved that the majority of Americans share their paranoid fears about "Neocons," "the Jews" and the "military-industrial complex." This false assumption has inflamed their paranoid passions, and has led to an equally entertaining and intimidating display of anti-American rhetoric.
Before we take a tour through the land of "white colonialist guilt," let's remind ourselves who we are dealing with. Many of these people are post-modernist liberals, which means that their ideology is not to be confused with classical liberalism. They are among the most intolerant people in American society, yet they consider themselves to have absolute moral superiority over their inferior detractors. They are unapologetically prejudiced against white Judeo-Christians, and they are unwavering apologists for true barbarism that occurs around the world. According to their warped worldviews, America is the root of all evil, so everything un-American is at the very least more righteous than the "hate" and "injustice" that we supposedly export to the rest of the world.
If you think that description is over the top, then take a look at this inane Kos Diary, titled 'Calling Bulls**t on America':
*** Mild Language Warning ***
<<< Our nation, culture, and political system are all steeped in lies, contradictions, distortions, and propaganda - in other words, bullshit! It has taken me much of my life to shed the misconceptions and outright lies that have been drilled into me from birth, to develop and fine-tune my bullshit detectors, to learn to see anything with any clarity at all.
The government has powerful tools with which to manipulate our views, circumscribe our information, and mold our opinions (including the MSM and all the propaganda arms of the government itself) - and they use them with great zeal. The full extent to which the ruling class wants to hoodwink the rest of us cannot be overestimated. Their worst fear is that we will learn the truth.
[...] My personal view is that only the truth finally matters, and that only the truth can set us free.
I'll just touch on some highlights to make my point. Please feel free to add any bullshit I overlook to the pile.
Slavery was bullshit.
Manifest Destiny was bullshit.
Union busting was (and remains) bullshit.
Segregation and racism was (and remains) bullshit.
Duck and Cover was bullshit.
MKULTRA was bullshit.
[...] The murders of JFK, RFK, and MLK were bullshit.
The Gulf of Tonkin Incident was bullshit.
The entire Vietnam War was bullshit.
The Chicago Democratic Convention of 1968 was bullshit.
The massacre at Kent State was bullshit.
Watergate was bullshit.
The Reagan Presidency was bullshit.
Iran/Contra was bullshit.
The reign of Bush I was bullshit.
The stolen election of 2000 was bullshit.
9/11 was bullshit.
Invading Iraq was bullshit.
Tax cuts for billionaires was bullshit.
The joining of church and state was bullshit.
The trashing of our environment is bullshit.
Healthcare in America is bullshit.
Corporate ownership of our politics is bullshit.
The stolen election of 2004 was bullshit.
The Drug War is bullshit.
Screaming 'Support our troops' while cutting funds to veterans' programs and sending them into harm's way for bogus reasons is bullshit.
The fascist takeover of America is bullshit.
[...] We've all been lied to, to the point of absurdity. These days, there is almost nothing true in what we are told. It saddens me, it humiliates me, and it angers me.
I am sad that we do not have a government of the people, by the people, and for the people as we were meant to have.
I am humiliated that the world knows America as a bully, an imperialist, and a torturer - and that after all that has been done; we may never salvage our national reputation again in my lifetime.
I am angry that our government represents the wealthy, the greedy, and the special interests - and that virtually no one represents the best interest of the American people - and that the lip service given to same always seems to boil down to the same old thing - bullshit.
I am heartsick that our founding fathers tried so hard to bequeath us a great nation, but because of greedy, immoral bastards like the Bushes, what we got instead was bullshit. >>>
If you can stand the stench, then drop by the fever swamps and look at the actual post (link below). It's a photo essay that must have taken a long time to put together. And even though I agree with some of the author's arguments, it boggles the mind that after all of the good things that came out of the social revolution of the 60's and 70's, the legacy of post-modern liberalism is... self-loathing.

Can we question their patriotism now? (ht: FR)
