I don't think we can be colorblind yet. It's nice to pretend we could be, but we aren't there yet.

If Obama wants to be a uniter he needs to have a foot in each community- you don't keep a foot in the community by attacking the community. I'm not saying we should play the token game. I happen to like Obama for many reasons that have nothing to do with race- but I do see his race as a plus. After 200 + years of nothing but white males, a change might give everyone the idea that America really is changing in to a less racially charged country. I think it would be hugely symbolic- in a way far beyond what the word "token" encompasses.

I have no idea whether Biden and Ferraro were being racist. I think they misspoke. I've said that elsewhere. What Biden was trying to do was discuss the divide between the ghetto culture in the black community, and the healthier aspects- but he did a very poor job of it, and it's a tough subject for a white person to speak upon, sensitivities being what they are.
