<<Nobody in this industry has a clue about February 1998.>>

I have to agree with what Pat said about industry having a clue. I have to say though that Industry often times gets caught up in their own PR/Marketing frenzy some times. The street at times gets caught up as well, but, has an uncanny way of balancing itself out and at times going to the other extreme. Caution and patience are many time your friend.

I remember the hype over video phones. Wow what a bomb! An interesting concept with substandard technology at the wrong time. Fast forward 10-12 years and we have this amazing interconnected world. I have been telecommuting on and off during short periods as a trial for the group I am in. My ISDN connection is great ,but , I can now really imagine what it would be like to have true Megabit connectivity. I look forward to Phone over Internet, full motion seamless video (including a camera for video phone) and sending/receiving data files in a flash.

My point is, The industry knows about February 1998 and if they err,I think it will tend to be on the low side. I have been involved in equipment/network capacity planning and forcasting and thought of myself as conservative and grounded in reality, yet I find myself getting caught up in the PR/Marketing Frenzy for XDSL... and it feels right! I see the business drivers for the technology and that is what will drive the deployments. We are on the edge of the a positive cost benefit ratio for the providers and customers and I only see the costs going down and the benifits going up.
